My Code of Conduct
As a coach and counsellor in the UK, I am committed to uphold professional conduct and ethical standards that are aligned with the ethics codes of the major accreditation bodies of the land. I am working towards accreditation with BACP and as such, will eventually be required to answer to them regarding conduct. In short, acting in clients' best interests, I vow to:
- Not discuss intimate and identifiable aspects of work with clients with anyone except those with whom I have a similar complimentary code of conduct such as my own counsellors.
- Not have sexual, emotional, nor business relationships with clients during work together or within 2 years of working together.
- Not exploit my professional relationship for financial nor social gain.
- Treat all clients the fundamentally the same on account of their sex, age, orientation and other circumstantial physical attributes and chronic maladies.
- Not harm or collude in the harming of my clients or their connections.
- Decline any gifts, favours, money or hospitality that might be interpreted as exploitative.
- Be aware of the power imbalance between the practitioner and client.
- Clarify engagements with existing clients' connections and manage whilst protecting confidentiality.
- Not unnecessarily invade the social spaces of existing or past clients and their connections.
- Offer only the forms of coaching and support in which I have had adequate training or experience, referring to other professionals in the relevant space where applicable.
- Understand the limits of my competence and stay within them in all my professional activity and refer clients to another professional when appropriate.
- Not communicate with clients when adversely affected by personal mental health reasons, or when impaired by the temporary effects of recreational drugs or medication.
- Provide on request, proof of relevant qualifications.
- Provide details and proof of professional indemnity (Everywhen, Markel, Chaunce O'Hara, SimplyBusiness)
- Provide ample warning to clients who are at risk of abusing my time and attention, before taking action to terminate the professional relationship.
Sincerely, Ryan Minti - Relationship Theorist and Counsellor
